Who hasn’t experienced this? Suddenly a new review appears on the internet – on Google, Tripadvisor, Jameda, Kununu or another platform. Just one star, and for no real reason. Whether it’s a restaurant, doctor’s surgery, craft business, online store or employer: a single bad review can significantly damage a good reputation and the trust of potential customers.
Ratings – both a curse and a blessing
Online reviews should give other users an honest impression. Whether you are booking a hotel, choosing a lawyer or buying a product – almost everyone looks for stars and comments first. But not every review is factual or justified. Negative reviews are often written in the heat of the moment: a disgruntled customer, a misunderstanding or even deliberate damage to a competitor’s reputation. Particularly annoying are anonymous 1-star ratings without justification or false factual claims.
Bad or incorrect evaluation – you don’t have to accept this
Fortunately, you don’t have to put up with unjustified or offensive reviews. If false facts are claimed in a review, the author can be warned and obliged to delete it. A lawyer can check the unlawful review for you, write to the author, demand a cease-and-desist declaration and claim damages. The costs are usually borne by the author.
